NIGHTHAWKS won the Audience Choice Award for Short Fiction at the Minneapolis St. Paul International Film Festival (MSPIFF) Redefined! Everything was virtual this year due to COVID so it has yet to be seen on the big screen. We wish to give a huge shout-out to all who watched and supported!
The 30 minute short film from Rikshaw Films was written by Andy Froemke, directed by Dominic Howes, with cinematography by Joel Weber. It stars local actors Steve Lattery and Emily Fradenburgh. We’re honored and excited to have won Best Experimental Short Film at the LA Shorts International Film Festival!! This Academy qualifying festival ranks among the most prestigious and largest international short film festivals in the world. Our small cast and crew was made up of Andy Froemke, Holden Froemke, Ellie Haugen, Caleb Genheimer, Julia Froemke, and Sydney Froemke. That’s it! Just six of us.

Amazon Studios is developing the film Steal Away about the daring theft and escape of Robert Smalls, a slave in 1862 Charleston, SC. To Sleep With Anger filmmaker Charles Burnett is attached to direct with Cotty Chubb and George Plamondon producing. Andy Froemke wrote the script that has been optioned by Amazon Studios.

This was the script that won Andy the 2016 IFP Minnesota and Knight Foundation Screenwriting Residency. In addition to a $10,000 prize, Andy's been awarded a live reading of THE LOWRIE GANG with a cast from the Twin Cities area. The reading will be directed by Rhianna Yazzie, artistic director of New Native Theatre.
THE LOWRIE GANG is the incredible true story of Henry Berry Lowrie, a Native American cross between Jessie James and Robin Hood, who captures national headlines by rallying a mixed-race band of outlaws to stand up to the Klan in Post-Civil War North Carolina after they gun down his father and brothers. IFP Minnesota (now Film North) and Knight Foundation announce Andy Froemke as the winner of the 2016 Screenwriting Residency! Andy's been awarded a $10,000 prize and his winning script, THE LOWRIE GANG, will receive a staged reading.
